Welcome to the Condom City is a game application for your mobile phone that gives awareness to sexually transmitted diseases to young audience, who simply do not care for awareness education. We imagine the game being distributed to all new coming undergrad students on their day of orientation.

According to the chart for Chlamydia in year 2014, we can obviously see that there a hi concentration in age range between 18-24. Based on organization named Get Yourself Tested, “1in 2 Sexually Active Young People will get an STD by 25” and most aren’t aware of this. In addition, around 60% of the STD population is concentrated from age 15 to 25, however only this age range only represent 25% of sexually active population.

Further, based on U.S. high school student survey 34% had sexual intercourse in the previous 3 months, and of these 41% did not use condom the last time they had sex. Its amazing how even with required health classes, student make foolish choices.

Now lets imagine how more exposed Undergrad students are, freshman undergraduates are full of ambition and energy, and for the first time in their life they are out of parent supervision, no required health education. Finally, with the age of 18, they unlock the full access to online dating, OkCupid, Tinder, Hinge, Grindr. Undergrads are just waiting to be infected.

What are school’s currently doing to educate STD? Mostly are passive, hope students to pick up a pamphlet or condoms.

EXPLORATIONS

In the beginning, we started doing various visual sketches of how the data should look like. At a certain point we had ideas about condom dispensing machine. We thought of create installations, something that mimic TerraCotta warriors or illusion anamorphic. As we started targeting the our user age 18 to 24, we thought the mobile phone being un-separable to youth generation therefore way to approach the mass. Based on it we sketched around social network. Later on landing on gasmification.

Walking around US map state to state. Each state will have its population. It would be hard to avoid bumping with people, and every bump has the possibility of infecting STD. If you get STD it will reveal small portion of STD data.

Shooting game. The user goal is to shoot condoms at enemies containing STD. The infected will be created based on data.

Since the data will be only revealed by walking to the right position and viewing the data from a specific angle, the user will be guided to explore multiple routes and directions in the physical space.

The maze is generated by the volume and the complexity of STD data. If a state has a Lower infection rate, the number of paths within its portion of state will be increased so the player can access a longer path. When the player choose a wrong path and hits the end of path, more information about STD in that region will be displayed.
